We here at bandppainting.co are huge fans of beautiful and functional architecture, and one of the best examples of that is Hill Auditorium in Ann Arbor.

The Hill Auditorium which opened in 1913 on the University of Michigan campus is one of the most well-known musical hotspots around Michigan, and even the US. It has played host to a number of famous performers over its storied history. Elton John, The Grateful Dead, and George Winston are just a handful of the famous artists who have graced the magnificent acoustic setting of this building.

Hill was designed to be used both as a forum for music as well as a location for public and University events. Former regent Arthur Hill donated $200K for the auditorium’s construction, and he used the services of Albert Kahn and Associates (the group that also built the famous Rouge River vehicle plant) to design the structure that would give it its beautiful tonal and acoustic qualities.

Hill Auditorium is not only meant to be a musical venue. It can even be used as a corporate meetup location, playing to its strengths as a multi-use facility.
The building was most recently renovated in the early 2000s when it was closed for an 18-month period. The goal of the renovation was to provide updated amenities such as AC, extended bathroom facilities that could handle the larger influx of visitors, and a lower lobby area complete with concessions. All of these enhancements added up to a much more welcoming and comfortable version of the auditorium which debuted in its completed state in 2004.

Hill Auditorium is located near the heart of UM’s Central Campus. Be sure to check out parking options before you go. Parking near the University can be a bit of a challenge, so make sure you plan ahead. You may need to do a bit of walking once you’ve parked.
